Getting To The Finish Line
Situation: Financial services system
development and deployment project, two
years in the making with three missed implementation
dates, was in serious jeopardy of not making it to
production. Issues with project management,
application bugs and team morale presented
challenges that required immediate attention to this
high profile project.
Action Taken: Arten was brought in to take
over overall project management responsibilities and
management of 10+ consultants and 20+ client
staff. Significant day-to-day project management,
logistical and application development standards
implemented immediately. An active, hands-on
project management approach was taken to motivate and
challenge staff in meeting delivery requirements.
Lasting Effect: System was successfully
put into production six months after client engaged
Arten staff for assistance.
New Technology / System Conversion
Situation: Existing application and 60 gig
of raw data was to be ported from a proprietary
PC/LAN platform to a Solaris/Oracle
platform. Project risks included
application bugs, lack of a
complete data conversion plan, a project team that was
not working in unison and an unattainable delivery
date.
Action Taken: Arten was engaged to provide
technical project management services. The
first order of business was to perform a full project
audit resulting in a recast project plan and delivery
date. Other tasks to be completed
included system wide performance testing and
benchmarking, data conversion planning and architecture
and most important; leading the client's
technical staff on a path of certain delivery.
Lasting Effect: System was installed in
production as stated in the re-cast project plan
highlighted by a system data conversion completed
ahead of schedule.
